Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Blind River - Thessalon

A winter storm is expected Monday.

Snow at times heavy will develop early Monday morning and persist into the evening hours. Snow will taper to scattered rain showers or flurries Monday overnight.

Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm are likely by Monday evening. Strong southeast winds gusting to 70 km/h will also develop in the morning and combine with the freshly fallen snow to produce local blowing snow.

The worst conditions are most likely late Monday morning into the afternoon. Snowfall rates of several centimetres per hour are possible.

The snow and blowing snow is the result of a developing low pressure system that is expected to track over Northwestern Ontario.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
