Weather Network: Huge Colorado forest fire to blame for ominous orange sky (3 photos)

East Troublesome Fire has burned more than 170,000 hectares, and smoke was driven here by winds

If you noticed that the sky overhead took on an ominous, orange tinge Thursday afternoon as the city was under a rainfall warning, the folks at The Weather Network have provided an explanation.

The network said in an article that smoke from a large wildfire in Colorado was driven into the region.

The fire, known as the East Troublesome Fire, located near Grimes Peak on the Arapaho National Forest, has burned more than 170,000 hectares, and is only five-per-cent contained, said an article by CNN Friday morning.

Residents in the area are being evacuated.

“Worsening matters are firefighters' traditional foes: Dry conditions, and strong winds,” said the Weather Network article.

“Mid-level winds are also why Ontarians saw some hazy conditions, carrying the smoke aloft around 2,000 kilometres, over Michigan's Upper Peninsula.”

The Weather Network said it received reports of a distinct orange tinge to the skies in both the Greater Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie areas, and one viewer even reported smelling the faint odour of smoke.
