NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE
*************************
Emergency water shut-off notice and boil water advisory for 4-23 Blackwell and 159 Dieppe due to water main break

Please be advised the water service in your area has to be shut off today March 23, 2022, due to an emergency water main break.

Please refrain from using any water until it is restored upon completion of the repairs. Occupants may experience reduced water pressure and or water discolouration for a temporary period once the water supply has been restored.

Please run your cold water taps for a minimum of 20 minutes before using any appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers to clear any possible water discolouration. Do not attempt to use any hot water until your cold water is clear as it may cause damage to your hot water tank.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Once the watermain break has been repaired there will then be a boil water advisory in place for all affected residences.

A boil water advisory is being issued for 4 to 23 Blackwell and 159 Dieppe,

Whenever any kind of repair or construction on the water supply system, either planned or an emergency, there is a risk of soil or other contaminants entering the water supply.  Although this risk is very low, a boil water advisory is issued to all residents, businesses and public facilities located along this area of the water supply system.

In consultation with the Algoma Public Health, the City of Elliot Lake is issuing a boil water advisory for any activity where water may be ingested. This includes:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Drinking water from public drinking fountains in this area.

Please follow these instructions:

  • Bring water to a rolling boil
  • Continue to boil for at least one minute
  • Let water cool before using

This boil water advisory will remain in effect until work on the system is complete and microbiological samples confirm the safety of the water. This is a localized problem and only households and businesses in the affected area will receive this notice.

This work will not affect your water service, but we advise that you open each cold tap, one at a time, and let them run for about 20 seconds each. This should release any air trapped in your water lines. If the water is cloudy or contains grit, continue to run the cold water taps until the water runs clear.

Should you have any questions or concerns please call (705) 848-2287 ext. 2600.
