NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE
*************************
3:45 p.m. update:
The City of Elliot Lake has rescinded its boil water advisory for 1-18 Balsam Place.

The leak, this time, was in a lateral not the main, itself, said Elliot Lake's Manager of Public Works, Richard Barrette.

It's a rare situation that means nothing could get into the pipe and a boil water advisory is not necessary.

2:30 p.m. boil water advisory:
Whenever there is any kind of repair or construction on the water supply system, either planned or an emergency, there is a risk of soil or other contaminants entering the water supply. Although this risk is very low, a boil water advisory is issued to all residents, businesses and public facilities located along this area of the water supply system.

In consultation with the Algoma Public Health, the City of Elliot Lake is issuing a boil water advisory for any activity where water may be ingested. This includes:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Drinking water from public drinking fountains in this area. Please follow these instructions:
  • Bring water to a rolling boil
  • Continue to boil for at least one minute
  • Let water cool before using

This boil water advisory will remain in effect until work on the system is complete and microbiological samples confirm the safety of the water. This is a localized problem and only households and businesses in the affected area will receive this notice.

This work will not affect your water service, but we advise that you open each cold tap, one at a time, and let them run for about 20 seconds each. This should release any air trapped in your water lines. If the water is cloudy or contains grit, continue to run the cold water taps until the water runs clear.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Public Works Department at 705-848-2287 ext. 2600

Original 10:21 a.m. release:
Please be advised the water service in your area will be shut off today, Wednesday, June 22, 2022 around 8:30 a.m. due to a water main break.

Please refrain from using any water until it is restored upon completion of the repairs.

Occupants may experience reduced water pressure and or water discolouration for a temporary period once the water supply has been restored.

Please run your cold water taps for a minimum of 20 minutes before using any appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers to clear any possible water discolouration. Do not attempt to use any hot water until your cold water is clear as it may cause damage to your hot water tank.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please call 705 848-2287 ext.  2600.
