After the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre suddenly became unusable after a roof collapse last Feb. 21, Friends of Algoma East suddenly lost their customary venue where they had held their annual spring seminar on keeping safe in bear country, for many years. Like many other community groups, Friends of Algoma East needed to find a place to hold their presentation.

Now other arrangements have been made for a location and the group has just set up the presentation for the main hall at the Renaissance Active Living Centre on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 6:45 p.m.

The sign on Highway 108 near the Miners Memorial states, "Warning - You are in bear country." Black bear behaviour expert Jim Johnson says for those not familiar with Ontario's natural bear population, the session will cover aspects of bear behaviour, biology and current research. It's being presented with a slide show.
