Start your engines! Thousands expected at drag race classic

Throngs of eager motorsport fans are heading to Elliot Lake this weekend to experience the Northshore  Challenge, billed as northern Ontario's biggest and most spectacular Motorsport event.  All the action takes place on the tarmac at Elliot Lake's Airport Dragway from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15. 

Admission ranges from an adult day pass at $35 ($45 weekend pass) to VIP adult day pass at $115 ($160 VIP adult weekend pass). The VIP designation entitles attendees to private trackside elevated seating and on site parking, their own bar, plus other perks. 

Officials remind fans to keep hydrated and to bring plenty of sunscreen.  Children 10 and under get in free. Youth admission applies to young people between 11 and 14 who must be accompanied by an adult. The youth day pass goes for $15, $20 for the weekend. Youth VIP rates are $50 and $85. 15 and up teens will get in the gate for VIP rates of $100 and $130.

Features include a Thursday night burnout, the Northern Warrior Jet Car, the Wild Child Funny Car, the Science North "Feel the Rush", Kids Bouncy Land, the Classic Car Show, Military Vehicles, the Shed Jammers in concert, the Big Rig Trucks Show'n Shine and Race, among others.

Tickets and passes are available at the Elliot Lake Welcome Centre on Highway 108.  There's free return shuttle bus service from several downtown Elliot Lake locations including the Civic Centre to the drags at the airport on the south side of town. Gates open late Thursday afternoon. Friday morning they open at 8 a.m.. Saturday hours ar  8 a.m. til 8 p.m.. Sunday hours are 8 a.m. til 4 p.m..
