Blind River CAO Kathryn Scott, as requested by council, is looking for ways to incorporate an IT (Internal Technology) employee for the town.

IT jobs include computer programming, network administration, computer engineering, Web development and technical support. The request to explore options comes under the town’s service delivery plan which includes streamlining the way services are done within the town in a bid to find cost savings.

When the matter was raised at council in August, an IT position was considered to assist with the way town employee’s work hours are charted as part of the payroll system. Other work would also be considered.

Blind River is looking at the potential to share an IT employee and costs with a neighboring municipality.

“I am working with the other municipalities in our area to determine if we can come up with a partnership agreement,” Scott told council at its meeting Tuesday evening. “I’ve spoken with the CAO in Elliot Lake and clerks in our area and there is definitely interest in partnering with that position.”

Scott said she will continue to update council about the talks.
