Saskatchewan man facing multiple charges following traffic stop

On July 8, 2017 at 8:16 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a complaint of a vehicle on Highway 17 travelling westbound from the Espanola area.

The vehicle was operating at a very high rate of speed and passing unsafely.

Police later observed the vehicle on Highway 17 near Spanish operating in an aggressive manner. 

A traffic stop was initiated and investigation revealed the driver was also consuming alcohol. 

The driver was subsequently arrested, a three day driver's license suspension issued, and the vehicle was towed. 

Hemin JahangiriI, 25 years of age, from Regina, Saskatchewan, was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle, plate improperly displayed, contrary to section 7(1)(b i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Follow too closely, contrary to section 158 of the HTA
  • Driving motorized vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor License Act (LLA)

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
