On July 8, 2017 at 8:16 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a complaint of a vehicle on Highway 17 travelling westbound from the Espanola area.
The vehicle was operating at a very high rate of speed and passing unsafely.
Police later observed the vehicle on Highway 17 near Spanish operating in an aggressive manner.
A traffic stop was initiated and investigation revealed the driver was also consuming alcohol.
The driver was subsequently arrested, a three day driver's license suspension issued, and the vehicle was towed.
Hemin JahangiriI, 25 years of age, from Regina, Saskatchewan, was charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle, plate improperly displayed, contrary to section 7(1)(b i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
- Follow too closely, contrary to section 158 of the HTA
- Driving motorized vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor License Act (LLA)
