Got that artistic itch and want to enter a contest? Now is your chance.

From now until Dec. 12, the North Channel Literary Council is accepting holiday drawings and writing samples for the second annual Holiday Writing Contest.

Mona Clark, Program Coordinator at the Elliot Lake Learning Center, explained that the contest is also open to kindergarten children up until adult age.

"This is the second year we have hosted a holiday writing contest," she said. "In Elliot Lake, we offer the contest in English and French. It is also offered by our Blind River site..

For artists in kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2, they are allowed to submit a holiday themed art piece. As for the writing contest, it will be split up in three categories: grades 3-6, 7-9 and grades 10-12 as well as adults. A prize will be awarded for the winner of each category.

Clark also explained that students would have received entry forms from their respective schools.

"Entry information was distributed to all area schools as well as being posted to Facebook pages," she explained. "We are expecting a good participation. Everyone loves the holidays."

If interested, application can be dropped off at unit 1 of the Paris Plaza. Contest closes Dec. 12. The next writing challenge will happen in the winter time to coincide with the winter carnival.
