Quilt Guild honours city's first baby of 2020

10-day-old Beau Grant presented with handcrafted quilt last Wednesday

It's official. The City of Elliot Lake's New Year's Baby for 2020 is Beau Grant. Last Wednesday, two members of Elliot Lake Quilt Guild went to his Axmith Avenue home to present the then 10-day-old child and his mom, Mackenzie Roberts, with the quilt they crafted in the baby's honour.

Elliot Lake Quilt Guild President Norma Cyr with quilter Jane Wakelin made a quick visit to the family home for the presentation.

Beau weighed in at nine pounds, one ounce when he came into world on Jan. 5, 2020 at Elliot Lake's St. Joseph's General Hospital.

His mom's due date was Dec. 27 but obviously Beau had other ideas. Instead, he went on to become the first baby born in the city in 2020.

As soon as the quilt was placed on him while he was held by his mother, Beau decided to protest with a short cry.

The Elliot Lake Quilt Guild was started in 1996 and currently has about 50 members. It has donated about $50,000 back to community groups since it started.
