The Blind River Timber Village Museum will be purchasing new display cases to take some of its artifacts to other locations in the community then the museum itself.
Council, at its meeting Monday evening, approved spending up to $5,000 for new display cases as recommended by director of facilities and community services Karen Bittner in a report to council.
“That council authorize Timber Village Museum to purchase display cases to a maximum of $5,000 in order to showcase Blind River’s rich history, engage users of all ages, as well as promote cohesion amongst its operations,” Bittner wrote in a recommendation to council.
She suggested the money come from the budget set aside from the Festivals committee’s operating budget for this year of about $75,000 which is currently under review.
“As Festivals will experience savings, it is suggested that savings found within the Festivals 2019 operating budget offset Timber Village Museum’s request,” she stated in her report.
There are four locations being considered to house artifacts from the museum which was relocated from its former building off Causley Street to the marina building. The locations include the town library and community centre.
