The Elliot Lake Pride organization will be taking to the streets Saturday morning to host its first-ever pride motorcade.

“Due to the unfortunate events currently going on in the world (coronavirus), we had to cancel our main Pride event,” the group stated on its Facebook page. “The committee was super bummed out about this, and we’ve been searching for a way to celebrate Pride within the current restrictions and we think we’ve got it! This Saturday, Aug. 15, we will be hosting our first Elliot Lake pride motorcade! Beginning at 11 a.m., we will have a procession of our rainbow’d-out cars leaving the upper mall parking lot.”

The motorcade will proceed to Hillside Drive South and turn right toward Mississauga Road where it will turn left and move along Mississauga to Elliot Lake Secondary School where it will turn left onto Hillside before heading downtown to return to the upper plaza parking lot.

“Bring a blanket, bring a chair, or simply sit on your porch and let us bring the Pride to you,” the Facebook page urges residents and supporters. “We’re in this together, so remember to keep your distance and be safe.”
