Owner of new dollar store happy to bring new option to hometown

Job fair set for Tuesday as new retail outlet aims for December opening

In December, Elliot Lake's business sector will be growing by one more business in the Paris Plaza.

Your Dollar Store With More is currently under construction and franchise owner Helen Lefebvre said she couldn't be more excited to open the store and serve the community,

Originally from Elliot Lake, Lefebvre and her partner, Michelle Gagne, moved back to help take care of Lefebvre's mother and decided to purchase the franchise to help serve the community. They say they hope to have more items available than the competition.

"We're looking at having more household items stocked up at the store to help serve the community," said Lefebvre. "We want to listen to the community and see what they are looking for in a store and go from there on merchandise and see what we can provide."

Lefebvre and Gagne both said they are hoping to expand in the springtime.

"We just want to get the store up and running at the moment and hopefully we can expand the store to provide more," said Gagne. "We want to provide popular items to the public."

On why she chose this location, Lefebvre explained that growing up, she used to visit Paris Plaza when there used to be a corner store in the strip mall.

"I used to come to the plaza all the time," she said. "This area of town is full of senior citizens and young families. There's a bus stop right outside our door by the ramp now and this is the perfect place for the store. It's also nice to see that Elliot Lake's business sector is booming with shopping being dispersed everywhere. This is a great location."

Lefebvre and Gagne said they hope to reach out to the community more and help provide the best customer service they can offer. They both explained that they wish to help local charities and be involved in the community.

"We want to be more hands on with our customers and our employees," said Lefebvre. "We want them to know we're listening. We want to help. If we can do the best we can, that's all that matters."

Lefebvre said that once the doors are open for business, she and Gagne hope to provide a raffle to help bring the customers in.

To get the store up and running, Lefebvre and Gagne explained they will be holding a job fair. They are looking at hiring between 15-20 people to help with stocking the shelves and out of those employees, keep roughly five for their regular staff. No times for store hours have yet to be established.

The job fair will be held Tuesday between 10 a.m and 6 p.m in the Maple Room at the Hampton Inn.

"We will be having brief interviews at that time so please bring your resumes with you," explained Lefebvre.

Lefebvre is hoping to have the store up and running before Christmas time.
