Ontario reports 826 new COVID cases today

In the last seven days, the province has confirmed 5,445 new cases of COVID-19

Public Health Ontario has reported 826 new COVID-19 cases, 733 resolved cases, and nine deaths in today's epidemiological report. 

The nine deaths reported today include one person between 40 and 59 years old, two people between 60 and 79 years old, and six people over the age of 80. Three of the people who died were residents at long-term care homes.

Since yesterday's report, 30 people have been hospitalized due to the coronavirus and seven COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

According to a breakdown of the 826 cases reported today by Public Health Ontario, 292 cases are from Toronto, 186 are from Peel, 87 are from Ottawa, and 72 are from York Region. 

There are 72 new school-related cases reported in Ontario today, including 39 student cases, six staff cases, and 27 unidentified cases. There have been 1,698 school-related cases reported across 514 schools since September. There are five schools currently closed because of COVID-19 cases. 

The province reported eight new COVID cases in childcare settings today. There have been 357 cases confirmed at licensed child care centres and home child care agencies in Ontario to date. Forty child care centres are currently closed because of COVID-19 cases.

In the last seven days, the province has confirmed 5,445 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 4,113 recoveries and 39 deaths.

Since the last report, Ontario's public health labs have processed 40,019 COVID tests, and there are 35,436 samples waiting to be processed. The province has now completed 4.8 million COVID tests. 

As of yesterday, the provincial per cent positivity rate is 2.5 per cent, indicating 2.5 per cent of the people tested for COVID-19 test positive.

To date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 68,353 COVID cases through lab testing, and has reported 58,799 of those cases as resolved and 3,080 as ending in death. 

There are currently 6,474 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, and 276 of those cases are hospitalized. There are 78 COVID patients in intensive care units and 47 COVID patients on ventilators. 

Of all the cases ever confirmed in Ontario, 25 per cent are individuals above the age of 60. Eleven per cent of the province's total COVID cases are health care workers. 

The average incidence rate in the province is 459.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,210 cases of COVID-19, with 1,132 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,024 cases listed as recovered. There are 133 active cases in the Simcoe-Muskoka region. Three people are currently hospitalized. The health unit has recorded 47 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 214 cases per 100,000 people.

~ Oct. 22: Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported two cases previously assigned to Penetanguishene were re-assigned to Tiny, one case previously assigned to Bradford W-G was re-assigned to New Tecumseth and two cases previously assigned to Severn were re-assigned to Georgian Bay and Oro-Medonte.
