Ontario reports 613 new COVID cases Tuesday

The latest updates noted 717 recoveries and nine new deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 613 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 717 recoveries and nine new deaths. The report also updated the total number of deaths by removing three deaths that were previously reported. 

The Nov. 23 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 5,487 active cases, down from 5,597 reported yesterday. 
  • 282 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • There are 111 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 23 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 68 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 13 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 11,215,575 Ontarians (about 75 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 89 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • Today's new cases include 288 unvaccinated, 30 partially vaccinated, and 266 fully vaccinated people. 29 cases were reported with the vaccination status unknown.  
  • Among the people in the ICU with COVID are 60 unvaccinated, two partially vaccinated, and 16 fully vaccinated individuals. 
  • Those hospitalized, but not in the ICU, with COVID include 95 unvaccinated, nine partially vaccinated, and 66 fully vaccinated individuals.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 10 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, five cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 2.6 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 19,859 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 3.1 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 72 are from Toronto, 35 are from Peel, 73 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 47 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 107 individuals under 12 years old, 45 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 199 people between 20 and 39 years old, 164 people between 40 and 59 years old, 86 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 12 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 612,931 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 597,470 recoveries and 9,974 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 31,130 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 6,125 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,160 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 30.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 11.5 per cent compared to the week of Nov. 6.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 919 cases, weekly rate of 129 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 918 cases. There are 283 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 893 cases, weekly rate of 17 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 895 cases. There are 19 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 87 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,263 cases, weekly rate of 14.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,265 cases. There are 8 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 3,526 cases, weekly rate of 114 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,572 cases. There are 258 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 314 cases, weekly rate of 106.2 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 325 cases. There are 61 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,219 cases, weekly rate of 13.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,218 cases. There are 14 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,489 cases, weekly rate of 12 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,495 cases. There are 33 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 94 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 90 per cent have both doses.
