Ontario reports 384 new COVID cases Wednesday

Today's update includes 722 recoveries, 33 new hospitalizations and 12 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 384 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 16).

Today's update also includes 722 new recoveries and 12 deaths. 

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, three people between 40 and 59 years old, six people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday's update, there have been 33 new hospitalizations, and 10 more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 15 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 4,662 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 5,012 yesterday.
  • 438 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 433 yesterday.
  • There are 377 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (69 of those people no longer test positive for COVID-19) and 242 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 244 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 28,076 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.5 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 13,336 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 54 are from Toronto, 60 cases are from Peel, and seven are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 81 individuals aged 19 and under, 145 people between 20 and 39 years old, 104 people between 40 and 59 years old, 43 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 13 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 202,984 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 184,989 doses administered on June 14.
  • 11,732,414 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total,2,198,715 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 540,810 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 527,162 recoveries and 8,986 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,638.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 23.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 30.1 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 400 cases, weekly rate of  3.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 397 cases. There are five known active cases, including one person who is not an Algoma resident and is temporarily in the region. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 496 cases, weekly rate of 21.6 cases per 100,000 people. There are 37 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,896 cases, weekly rate of 321.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,889 cases. There are 345 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,103 cases, weekly rate of 6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,123 cases. There are 20 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 208 cases, weekly rate of 3.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 208. There is one known active case. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,076 cases, weekly rate of 6.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,074 cases. There are seven known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,326 cases, weekly rate of 17.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,323 cases. There are 33 known active cases.
