Ontario reports 345 new COVID cases Friday

Today's update also includes 624 recoveries, 37 new hospitalizations, and one death

Public Health Ontario has reported 334 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 18).

This is the fourth consecutive day the province has reported fewer than 400 new cases. In the last seven days, Ontario has recorded 2,874 new COVID cases.

Today's update also includes 624 new recoveries and one death – an individual over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday's update, there have been 37 new hospitalizations, and 11 more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 17 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 4,110 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 4,390 yesterday.
  • 378 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 397 yesterday.
  • There are 352 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (59 of those people no longer test positive for COVID-19) and 221 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 232 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 26,643 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.4 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 11,236 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 50 are from Toronto, 50 cases are from Peel, and seven are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 65 individuals aged 19 and under, 158 people between 20 and 39 years old, 72 people between 40 and 59 years old, 40 people between 60 and 79 years old, and ten people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 210,638 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 210,611 doses administered on June 16.
  • 12,153,663 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 2,547,241 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 541,525 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 528,421 recoveries and 8,994 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,643.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 22.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 26.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 398 cases, weekly rate of  2.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 397 cases. There are three known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 507 cases, weekly rate of 28.5 cases per 100,000 people. There are 45 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,929 cases, weekly rate of 270.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,917 cases. There are 271 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,108 cases, weekly rate of 7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,128 cases. There are 19 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 207 cases, weekly rate of 3.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 208. There is one known active case. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,076 cases, weekly rate of 8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,074 cases. There are seven known active cases, including one active case outside of the catchment area.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,328 cases, weekly rate of 16.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are 29 known active cases.
