Ontario reports 2,759 new COVID cases Thursday

Today's update also includes 3,455 recoveries, 192 new hospitalizations, and 31 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 2,759 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 13). 

Today's report includes 3,455 recoveries and 31 new deaths.

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, four people between 40 and 59 years old, 16 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday, the province has reported 192 new hospitalizations and 38 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The May 13 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 29,235 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 29,962 reported yesterday. 
  • 1,632 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,673 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 776 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (same as yesterday) and 568 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 559 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 47,638 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 5.7 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 24,365 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.6 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 774 are from Toronto, 602 cases are from Peel, 258 are from York Region, and 65 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's cases include 538 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,125 people between 20 and 39 years old, 781 people between 40 and 59 years old, 275 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 40 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 137,697 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 12, which is down from 140,785 given on May 11.
  • As of 6 p.m. on May 12, the province reported 6,629,363 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 407,600 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 502,171 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 464,531 recoveries and 8,405 deaths, of which 3,937 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,378.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 134.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 15.9 per cent from last week (April 27 to May 3).

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 361 cases, weekly rate of  8.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 358 cases. There are 24 known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 395 cases, weekly rate of 23.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 397 cases. There are 34 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 771 cases, weekly rate of 100.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are 167 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,014 cases, weekly rate of 26.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,033 cases. There are 84 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 197 cases, weekly rate of 36.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are six known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,020 cases, weekly rate of 53.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,016 cases. There are 47 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,152 cases, weekly rate of 18.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,157 cases. There are 36 known active cases.
