Ontario confirms 315 new COVID cases today

The province has reported between 204 and 315 new cases each day for the last six days

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 315 new, lab-confirmed cases today, the highest daily case count since the first week of June. 

This is the second time in three days the province has reported more than 300 cases in a day, with 313 reported on Monday. 

Ontario's public health agency has also confirmed two new deaths, including one person over the age of 80 and one person between 40 and 59 years old. 

According to a breakdown of today's cases provided by Public Health Ontario, 80 per cent of the new cases reported today came from five of the province's 34 health units. Toronto Public Health reported 77 new cases, Ottawa reported 61 new cases, Peel reported 54 new cases, York Region reported 37 of today's cases, and Durham Region reported 24 new cases. 

More than half of today's cases (170 cases) are individuals between 20 and 39 years old. 

According to data provided by Public Health Ontario, there are 12 new school-related cases, including six students and four staff (two are unidentified). In total, there are 41 school-related cases spread out at 35 different schools. 

Today's report includes a teacher from Twin Lakes Secondary School in Orillia, which was announced by the school board and Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit yesterday. 

To-date, the province has confirmed 45,383 cases of COVID-19, and has reported 40,245 of those cases as recovered and 2,822 cases ending in death. 

There are now 2,316 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, with 44 people hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 20 COVID patients in intensive care and 12 patients on ventilators. 

Since yesterday's report, the province has confirmed another 28,761 COVID tests have been processed. Since January, provincial labs have processed almost 3.4 million COVID-19 tests. 

The average incidence rate for COVID-19 in Ontario is 305.3 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 770 coronavirus cases in the region to date, with 728 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of all the cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 674 are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. One person from New Tecumseth is in hospital.

The health unit reports there are 53 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, including 39 in Barrie, three in Bradford, two in New Tecumseth, four in Innisfil, one in Wasaga Beach, one in Springwater, two in Orillia, and one in Ramara. There are six unrecovered cases in Muskoka District.
