Official vote count posted in Blind River

44 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots and officially chose Sally Hagman to be the next mayor

Blind River has released its certified election results from Monday’s municipal election in which 44 per cent of eligible voters in the community cast a ballot.

Political newcomer Sally Hagman was elected mayor with 858 votes beating out incumbent mayor Sue Jensen who captured 229 votes and candidate Alex Solomon who garnered 456 votes.

Of the six council positions, five council incumbents were elected with Paula Summers capturing 1,081 votes, followed by council newcomer Betty Ann Dunbar receiving 1,078 votes. Incumbents returning to the council table include Jim Dunbar, 1,043 votes, Steven Wells, 1,003 votes, H.P. Roy, 905, and Clifford Spratt 776 votes.

Candidate Robert Ambeault failed to win a seat and received 555 votes.
