The Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) is pleased to announce that it will be opening two new elementary schools, in Noëlville and Elliot Lake. At its board meeting on Oct. 24, the CSPGNO approved funding to extend its network of schools to both these communities.

École publique élémentaire de Noëlville and École publique élémentaire d’Elliot Lake will open their doors in September 2019 and will provide educational programming to students from kindergarten to grade 6. Students from these schools will be able to move on to CSPGNO intermediate and secondary schools in both these localities.

The CSPGNO board chair, Mr. Jean-Marc Aubin underscores the importance of this announcement.

“We are very excited to undertake this wonderful project which represents a historic moment for the CSPGNO. For years, families in these two communities have sought to claim their right to public education for their elementary school children and today, their dream has become a reality. Our school board has a responsibility towards Francophone families who wish to educate their children in an educational environment where language, openness and human values have pride of place. Our decision today demonstrates our commitment to our communities, our families, our vision of education and the future of our children.”

The CSPGNO’s director of education, Mr. Marc Gauthier, explains the nature of the project: “In the coming months, major renovation work will begin at École secondaire Villa Française des Jeunes and École secondaire de la Rivière-des-Français. Within these buildings, École publique de Noëlville and École publique d’Elliot Lake will be provided with excellent facilities including state-of-the-art classrooms. In this modern environment, students will experience an adventure in quality education focused on STEM-based learning projects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and a interdisciplinary approach that fosters the development of a 21st century skill set.

Parents who wish to register their children in either of these schools may contact the CSPGNO immediately at 705-671-1533 or 1-800-465-5993.

Recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness to the world, CSPGNO offers a French-language public education of the highest quality in eleven elementary schools and eight secondary schools in the communities of Markstay, Noëlville, Greater Sudbury, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge and Longlac.
