New Blind River exhibit features work of Elliot Lake artists

'Kaleidoscope' runs until October 30 at Timber Village Museum

Blind River’s Timber Village Museum (TVM) has opened a new art exhibit featuring works by three artists from Elliot Lake.

The show opened Thursday with artists Kathleen Burke, mixed media; Jola Klim, multi-disciplinary; and Hilda Ross, realism/pointillism. The exhibit is under the name Kaleidoscope featuring diverse art mediums.

“The members of the Elliot Lake Art Club have brought their own unique and abstract flair to the TVM Art Gallery through their show,” said TVM curator Louisa Orford. “Kaleidoscope group shows like this are important to the arts community as they provide an opportunity to maintain collective sensibilities and connect to the broader Algoma community. This is a chance for these artists to create, socialize, and collaborate.”

It is the second art exhibit held this summer at the TVM and visitors will be required to adhere to restrictions due to COVID-19 requirements. Staff have also taken steps to make the exhibit open to everyone and despite some work being done to upgrade the building located adjacent to the Blind River Marina.

“This year, in place of our usual opening receptions where our patrons are able to meet the artists, we will be using our Facebook page for artist spotlights and featured artworks. Each week during the show, we will be showcasing different aspects of the exhibit, the artists and their works so that even those that cannot make it to our gallery will still get the chance to experience part of the show,” Orford said.

“We have accomplished our installation of an updated chair lift and flooring to ensure your visit is welcoming, accessible, and tidy. We are awaiting our final approval for our elevator licence from TSSA. During this time, we are happy to share a video of the show with anyone who has difficulty with stairs. We will personally reach out to provide you with an online tour, assist with any purchases you would like to make, as well as speak with you on the phone to provide any other assistance we can.”

The TVM Art Gallery will be open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a maximum capacity of four guests in the gallery. Last admission to the gallery will be 30 minutes prior to closing. Admission to the gallery is by donation.

The show runs until Oct. 30.
