Riding the strength of a four-assist night supplied by Austin Mongomery-Parsons the Elliot Lake Vikings went on the defeat the French River Rapids 6-3 Friday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Massey & District Community Arena.
Elliot Lake got the game’s first goal, 4:23 into the match-up as Justin Pichor took a cross-ice pass at the point, from in deep by Montgomery-Parsons, then skated to the top of the right circle and fired a shot through traffic that beat French River netminder Nicholas Tarantella.
Heading to the second stanza, the Vikings broke it open by striking four times in just over a four-minute span
Michael Leech began the outburst at 6:12 as he converted on a two-man break by steering in a pass across from Mongomery-Parsons.
Elliot Lake added another on the next shift with Mason Windsor deflecting in a point blast from teammate Dean Crouch.
Cole Schreiber then made it 4-0 a couple of shifts later after taking a feed in front off the stick of Brigham Nye and getting just enough of his attempt to get through Tarantella.
Extending their lead on a five-on-three Nate Dugwell jammed in a loose puck from in close with Mongomery-Parsons collecting his third assist on the night.
After the tally, Brock Grein entered in relief for French River.
The Rapids eventually solved Vikings’ goaltender Noah Davis, who was making his NOJHL debut, as Nolan Masson came off the bench on a line change and darted into the Elliot Lake end and wired one top shelf at 13:52 for his 10th marker of the campaign.
Answering that a couple of shifts later, Yenry Jibb ran a point streak to five as he finished off another helper from Montgomery-Parsons from the slot.
Tucker Roberts brought the guests closer in the final minute of the frame as he buried a nifty pass in front from Sergy Suschenko.
In the third, French River’s Jack Wilson put one upstairs on Davis in the late going to round out the scoring.
The outcome sees the Vikings improve to 6-15-0-0 and in defeat, the Rapids slip to 8-13-1-2.
