NEWS RELEASE
ST. JOSEPH’S GENERAL HOSPITAL
*************************
St. Joseph General Hospital (SJGHEL) would like to advise the public that our Medical Surgical (Third Floor) Unit has been closed to visitors (except on compassionate grounds, direct family members of palliative patients) after Algoma Public Health declared a suspect influenza outbreak Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.

Other units will remain open for regular visiting, however please avoid coming for visiting if you have been experiencing any illness.

SJGHEL would like to remind everyone there are several things that can be done to protect yourself and others from contracting influenza.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • If you are not feeling well, stay home and rest.
  • If you are sick, don’t visit loved ones in hospitals or long-term care facilities. With weakened immune systems, the elderly and those in hospital are more at risk.

SJGHEL will update information, as our information changes or more information becomes available.

For more information on influenza outbreaks, please contact Algoma Public Health, phone: (705) 356-2551 or your family health care provider.
