Sheriff called to assist with eviction. Three face drug, fraud charges

On March 1, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist a building manager and Sheriff pertaining to the eviction of a tenant in an apartment building on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont. 

The male apartment renter met police at the door. He advised there was a male and female also inside the apartment. Police entered the apartment with the Sheriff and recognized the male and female as they were wanted in relation to previous charges. Numerous drug related paraphernalia and suspected crack cocaine was also located on the living room table.  

As a result, the two males and the female were arrested and charged.

Trenton Richer, 22 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with recognizance (five counts), contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Possess schedule I substance (cocaine), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Cause or attempt to use a forged document, contrary to section 368(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Use of credit card (two counts), contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the CC,
  • Use of credit card data (two counts), contrary to section 342(3) of the CC,
  • Fraud under $5,000, contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ont. on March 2, 2019.

Nadia Southwind, 22 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Cause or attempt to use a forged document, contrary to section 368(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Use of credit card (two counts), contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the CC,
  • Use of credit card data (two counts), contrary to section 342(3) of the CC,
  • Fraud under $5,000, contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on April 2, 2019.

Donald Johnson, 56 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possess schedule I substance (cocaine), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on April 2, 2019.
