Looking to get to Sudbury or Sault Ste. Marie? There's a driving service for that

Local resident offers a driving service if you're in a bind

Since Sept. 2017, a driving service has been taking residents to and from Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury. This service is offered by local resident Mike Pecore.

Since being retired, Pecore said this service he is providing is helping him fill up his week as well as helping others get to some medical appointments.

"What I do is more of a service to others," he said. "It breaks up my week and I'm helping people getting to some appointments or even to do some shopping."

Born and raised in Elliot Lake, Pecore has been working around the country as a ski professional and has taught in Elliot Lake. He said he has been in the recreational field for 40 years and moved back to Elliot Lake for retirement.

"I taught skiing, snowboarding and racing," he explained. "I've been in the recreational business for a long time."

Pecore said he started this driving service after people had approached him for help to get to Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. A friend of his suggested performing this service and that's when it all started for him.

"A friend suggested to me to do this and then I figured this would be a great opportunity for me to pick stuff up wherever I'm going," he explained. "I also thought this was the perfect opportunity to help others if they need rides."

Because of the public bus transportation, Greyhound and Ontario Northland, usually full, Pecore said his service helps people get to special medical appointments in either Sault Ste. Marie or Sudbury.

"People I drive are usually pretty friendly who are just trying to make it to medical appointments," he explained. "They share interesting stories. This gives me something to do."

Pecore said he's still taking bookings for trips.
