Local man faces drug charges and more

On Oct. 6, 2017, at approximately 4:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Albert Street in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police stopped a male who was trespassing in a yard on the street. The male was known to police and was out past his curfew. Subsequently, the male was arrested.

Wesley Bruce Maynes, 59 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Trespassing at night, contrary to section 177 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
  • Possession of break-in instruments, contrary to section 351(1) of the CC
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes, contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - other drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 10, 2017.
