Kropf of Owen Sound putting together new Elliot Lake pier

Fishing pier expected to attract boaters, fishers and people interested in other water-centred sports and activities

An Owen Sound-based contractor, Kropf Industrial Inc. is putting together Elliot Lake's new pier adjacent to the municipal boat launch on Highway 108 north of the city core.

An array of spectators was on hand Tuesday morning as crews of workers, some in an aluminum boat on Elliot Lake, continued the preparation work to instal the city's 50 metre fishing pier.

A crane is set on the shoreline near the road access to the site and other construction.equipment along with Kropf's own construction supply trailer dot the landscape as well.

The Elliot Lake boat launch is closed to the public as the works continues.

All three main prefabricated sections of the pier are floating in the waters of Elliot Lake now awaiting connection into one structure and the arrival of more components. When completed later this summer the pier, like the adjacent boardwalk that was installed last year, will remain in the water year round.

Included in the work to be completed this year is installation of electrical and lighting, seating and shading, finger docks for boaters and other pier amenities.

The purpose of the Elliot Lake Pier project is to enhance Elliot Lake's position as an attraction for boaters, fishers and other water centred recreation interests in Northern Ontario.
