Journey to Fabric exhibit opens in Blind River

Exhibit is on display at Timber Village Art Gallery from May 18 to July 1

Artist Diane Stewart’s Journey to Fabric exhibit opened up at Blind River’s Timber Village Art Gallery Thursday afternoon, displaying her remarkable fabric creations. Stewart’s work has been on display at previous gallery exhibits.

The art pieces were developed over 45 years and are purposefully placed along with storyboards.

“Art, in its many forms, tells a story; a story of inspiration that is often very personal to the artist,” said curator Ashley Young at the exhibit opening. “I would like to extend a special thank you to our guest artist for the countless hours she has spent planning and organizing for today. Diane made arrangements to borrow pieces from collectors, mapped the exhibit, and reflected, in writing, about her art journey”.

The exhibit also featured baked goods and light refreshments served by TVM’s students.

This retrospective features 46 years of art and accomplishments. Stewart began her career as a watercolorist and now practises a unique method of textile mosaicing, building depth and texture with hundreds of tiny fabric pieces. The artist has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Alliston University and has been a member of many professional associations, including the Ontario Society of Artists. She has also taken part in a large number of solo/duo displays, group exhibitions and juried shows.

Mayor Sally Hagman was in attendance and praised Stewart’s artwork.

“Blind River is filled with so much talent and a beautiful space to show it off. Diane’s artwork deserves nothing less than Lake Huron as its backdrop,” she said.

A Journey to Fabric is on display at the Blind River Marine Park’s TVA Gallery located at 1 Hagger Rd. in Blind River. The show runs from May 18 to July 1. TVM Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
