On Nov. 18, the Society for Animals in Distress (SAD) will be hosting a comedy fundraising event in partner with Raise the Woof, a California organization. This organization is world renown to help animal shelters raise money through laughter.

The show will take place at Sainte Marie church. The reason for the fundraising event is to help the animal shelter cover veterinarian costs for the incoming animals. Currently, SAD is the only animal shelter in Elliot Lake and is a no kill shelter that receives owner/city surrendered animals that are adopted to their new forever homes.

“In order to reduce the risk of disease spread and over population, we spay/neuter every animal as well as vaccinate and flea and worm treat before we adopt out animals to their forever homes,” said SAD Business Manager Evelina Szczepanowska. “SAD is in dire need of funds to take care of veterinary costs as we do everything we can to make sure the animals coming through our doors leave healthy and live full lives.”

According to Szczepanowska, the shelter is looking at raising $4,000 "to alleviate some of the escalating veterinary costs.”

Tickets are available at the Sunshine Shop and the shelter, as well as Pet Valu. The cost for tickets are $35 each and includes a light meal. A cash bar and a dance will follow.
