One of Northern Ontario's best known mid-winter events, 12th Annual Horne Lake Fishing Derby, is set for Saturday, Feb. 16 on Horne Lake downtown, adjacent to the Miner's Memorial on Highway 108.

As noted on the City of Elliot Lake website that's the day you can join in to have a chance at winning tens of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes and having a guaranteed day of ice fishing on Elliot Lake's picturesque Horne Lake.

Entry cost is $113 per hole (HST included). The winner of the longest fish takes home 50 per cent of the cash prize. Previous year’s winners netted over $ 25,000 cash. The second prize is a Polaris ATV.

The first 100 entries go on the ice at 9 a.m. and another 100 will be allowed out out every half hour through 10:30 a.m. when 400 fishers will be out. The remaining entries will be admitted at 11 a.m.

You can register Friday Feb. 15 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Civic Centre, and Saturday (Derby Day), 8 til 11:30 a.m. You can also call the Welcome Centre at 1-800-661-6192 or 705-848-7737 or 705-848-2287 (ext. 2406) to register. Registration (cash only) can also be done at Elliot Lake Trading Post, 14 Oakland Boulevard.
