Horn honking leads to impaired charge for local woman

On Dec. 18, 2018 at approximately 7:09 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a 911 call in regards to female in her vehicle honking the horn on Farrell Crescent in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police attended Farrell Crescent and observed a female in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in a driveway with the motor running. Police spoke to the female driver and a strong odour alcoholic beverage was detected emanating from her breath. In addition, there was a large bottle of liquor on the passenger side floor which was partially consumed. The female was subsequently arrested, her driver's license suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Nadia Dechamplain, 37 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration - 80 plus, contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on Jan. 29, 2019.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
