Happy feet, happy life (2 photos)

Take a look at Elliot Lake Foot Care for this week’s Mid-Week Mugging.

Feet are the most underrated parts of the human body and suffer through calluses and fungi. Having issues? Elliot Lake Foot Care has you covered.

Born and raised in Alabama, Jacquelyn Macknight studied nursing at the University of Minnesota. She knew she wanted to be a nurse since she was three years old.

”When I was three, my parents were very sick and I took care of them before people realized we were alone,” she said. “When family realized what was going on, they asked me what I was doing. I said I was a nurse. And now I am.”

Macknight has been a nurse since 1980. She was placed with the neurosurgery department and realized that foot care was essential for patients for them to have successful tests. She then decided to follow a podiatrist. She completed courses at St. Lawrence College to be certified to help treat feet issues.

”There was just something about feet,” she said. “I took courses for advanced foot care.”

Macknight moved to Elliot Lake 17 years ago, after she met her husband, who was a miner in the area.

”It’s better here, there are good people here,” she expressed. “It’s beautiful.”

In 2006, she decided to open up Elliot Lake Foot Care from her home.

”The services I do are all foot related,” she explained.

Her services include:

  • nail/callous reductions
  • diabetic foot care
  • plantar fasciitis
  • measuring for stockings
  • fungal nails
  • assessments for walking disorders
  • orthodic shoes
  • essential oils
  • specialty stockings

”I help around 200 people,” she explained. “I visit homes, hospital care and care homes,” she explained.

She services Blind River, Iron Bridge, Thessalon, Spanish and Elliot Lake.

For 2018, Macknight is hoping to learn more about foot care and wound care.

”My tip for people is to check the inside of the shoes once you see a yellow nail. Wash rugs, always clean shoes, put powder or cream on the feet, use plain old cider vinegar. Fungus doesn’t like vinegar. It’s cheap, easy and very natural.”

If interested in receiving foot care, Macknight can be reached at 705-227-1318 or through www.elliotlakefootcare.com.
