A funeral mass was held Monday morning for an Elliot Lake man who was the victim of a fatal house fire in his home early on the morning of Saturday, March 7.

The mass for Ronald Dumas took place at Paroisse St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 45 Spruce Ave. He was one of two victims of the fire at 4 Hart Rd.

Mr. Dumas was 64. Interment followed in Woodland Cemetery on Ottawa Avenue after the funeral  mass. Funeral details were provided by the Dumas family.

The victim's sister, Joanna Dumas Moggy, said her brother and a female tenant in the basement both died in the fire.

Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas said the department has not yet received positive identification of the tenant. That is expected later this week.

He said the cause of death for both victims was smoke inhalation. The fire started in the home's basement but the cause of the deadly blaze will likely never be known due to the extent of fire damage.
