Four new forest fires in the northeast region, including one in the Sault area

Four new fires have been discovered in the Northeast region as of June 10, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services stated in a release issued this evening.

The list of new fires is as follows:

  • Sault 11 is located approximately 8 kilometres northwest of Elliot Lake. It is not yet under control at 0.1 of a hectare.
  • Sudbury 38 is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. It is located just north of Lone Lake.
  • Sudbury 39 is not yet under control at 0.1 of a hectare, and is located approximately 2 kilometres northeast of Broker Lake.
  • Sudbury 40, located approximately 1 kilometre east of Horseshoe Lake road and east of Paddy Lake, is not yet under control at 0.1 of a hectare.

There are currently 19 other active fires in the region at various stages of control.

The fire hazard in areas of the region situated north of Timmins and west of Sault Ste Marie is mostly low to moderate. It remains high to extreme in most areas south of Timmins and east of Sault Ste Marie.
