The 2018 Quonta Drama Festival has come and gone for another year.

This year, four plays were staged throughout the four day event. On day one, Elliot Lake Amateur Theatre Ensemble (ELATE) presented Tempting Providence. Day two, the Espanola Little Theatre presented Problem Child. On the third day, the audience saw Hilda's Yard by the Sault Theatre Workshop, and on the final day the audience was treated to Exit the King by Gore Bay Theatre.

At the end of the festival, only one group will be representing the Quonta region in London in May. This year, the winning group was Elliot Lake's very own ELATE. This is the first time ELATE will be representing the Quonta region at the Theatre Ontario Festival.

Not only did ELATE get chosen for the Theatre Ontario Festival, cast and crew won the following awards during a ceremony on March 18:

  • Ponto Paparo for Outstanding Music
  • Outstanding Lighting Design went to Doug Robinson
  • Outstanding actress went to Kim Arnold for her role as Nurse Myra Grimsley Bennett
  • Outstanding Director went to Murray Finn
  • Outstanding Production

In addition, actor Jim Graham, who played Angus Bennett, and actor David Black, who played multiple roles, both received nominations in the categories of Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor.

The Theatre Ontario Festival runs from May 16-20 in London.
