The federal government has approved a grant to Blind River for sidewalk upgrades from the 17 Restaurant to Milltown Motors along Highway 17 at an upward limit of $300,000 or 60 per cent of the cost.

The funding was announced to council at its meeting Monday evening and comes after a grant application was approved by the federal government from the town’s director of facilities and community services Karen Bittner.

Mayor Sally Hagman welcomed the grant and the improvement work involved.

“This is very exciting news for anybody that is walking, cycling, in a wheelchair or motorized wheelchair to know that we are going to be making improvements to the sidewalk beside Highway 17,” she said. “Just imagine nice, flat sidewalks coming our way, and again, it will just further enhance the beauty of our already wonderful community.”

“It will be appreciated by one and all.”
