Elliot Lake council approved the hiring of Daniel Gagnon as the city’s new chief administrative officer (CAO).

Gagnon was not present when council approved the appointment at its meeting Monday evening. He is set to start as the city’s newest CAO on Jan. 2. He replaces Michael Humble who was the city's director of corporate services and served as interim CAO. He left the city on Nov. 24.

Gagnon worked for the city from 2001 to 2010 in an economic development and recreation capacity and served as its CAO from 2010 to 2011 before taking a similar post with the Township of North Glengarry in eastern Ontario.

The CAO position pays between $120,000 and $143,000, according to clerk Lesley Sprague.
