EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story said the Elliot Lake Wildcats would be involved in a special game against Toronto Maple Leafs alumni. Coun. Ed Pearce advises ElliotLakeToday that in fact, he meant to tell council that former members of the Elliot Lake Vikings hockey team will be involved in the game against the former NHLers.

Members of the former Elliot Lake Vikings hockey team will be hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs alumni team next month, the same day as the city hosts its fishing derby on Horne Lake.

Elliot Lake councillor Ed Pearce, also a member of the Elliot Lake Wildcats board, told members of Elliot Lake council Monday night the game will be played at Centennial Arena on February 16, a few hours after the winners of cash and prizes are announced for the ice fishing derby.

Along with that, the Maple Leafs organization announced they will be bringing their camera crew to Elliot Lake with the Leaf all-stars to record some of Elliot Lake's community events, including the ice fishing classic.

Councillor Pearce says they'll be producing a segment to be televised in a future Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. Even better news, said Councillor Pearce, "The Maple Leafs came to us, we didn't go to them."

Ticket prices and availability for the Vikings and Maple Leafs exhibition game, will be announced soon.
