Users of the original Elliot Lake dog park on Senator Place are being advised to watch for increased truck traffic in the area, temporarily.
It's because the City of Elliot Lake has commissioned Beamish Construction Inc. to dump truckloads of broken recovered asphalt behind the park.
The city has run out of space for temporary storage at the dump
In an email, Elliot Lake Director of Public Works Daryl Halloch told ElliotLakeToday the transfer operation is temporary.
"We have Beamish dumping asphalt from the Scotiabank parking lot being disposed of behind the Dog Park – as next year the same company is coming up to crush it, plus the remaining amount stockpiled from previous years, Halloch said. "This is going to allow us more time to come up with an area at the local landfill, where it won’t affect the day to day operations at the landfill."
The crushed asphalt will remain behind the dog park until the dump is made ready to receive it next year.
Halloch went on to say that signs have been posted from Beamish.
"Realistically, no one should be walking their dog back in that area, as it’s not part of the dog park," he said. "Washington (Park) would be a better choice for residents, as there are several trails off into the surrounding bush."
The broken asphalt is coming from the parking lot adjacent to Scotiabank at 1 Manitoba Road.
