The City of Elliot Lake has an upgrade underway that will limit access to the municipal boat launch dock area on Highway 108 in Elliot Lake during the warm weather months this year.

City Coordinator of Economic Development Ashten Vlahovich says the current boardwalk area of the boat launch will be shut down and removed over a two week period starting June 11, continuing til June 25.

The city will remove the boardwalk and make the shoreline safe for use during that period.  While this is going on, access to the boat launch ramps, docks and parking will remain available to the public. A fully accessible floating boardwalk is set for installation by mid-August to include seating and lighting along a non-slip composite deck for better accessibility.

Restoration of access will be set up to the shore after removal of the current boardwalk and until the new boardwalk is installed. The new installation will be extended from the shore to provide more access to the lake, including fishing.

The new and improved boardwalk is Phase 1 of the planned Elliot Lake Boat Launch, aimed at creating a tourism nodal project. If the money is available Phase 2 of the project will include a 50-metre fishing pier, replacement of the boat launch docks, docking for additional boats, plus landscaping.

The City of Elliot Lake asks people to respect construction barriers and keep out of the area until the work is finished.
