COVID hospitalizations up by one, active case count drops in Algoma

The number of active cases in Algoma is down by 43 from Wednesday's report

The latest COVID-19 numbers reported by Algoma Public Health show a small increase in hospitalizations though the active case count dropped from Wednesday's report.

Hospitalizations in the region went up by one to nine in Algoma with an added hospitalization that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the area.

The active case count in the region stands at 593 as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, down by 43 from Wednesday's report.

The number of resolved cases in Algoma stands at 2,243, which is up by 105 from Wednesday.

There are 62 new confirmed cases in the region and the number of Algoma residents tested for COVID-19 is up by 1,030 from Wednesday.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
