The following news release was issued today by the City of Elliot Lake:

All city transit services are cancelled on Friday, Feb. 15 due to severe weather/road conditions.

Public Works crews are working overtime and adding contracted resources to address narrowing streets and cut banks over the next few days. The public is being asked to help city crews by:
    •    being patient and slowing down
    •    avoid parking on streets when removing snow from driveways (cars on streets make plowing slower and more dangerous)
    •    minimize unnecessary travel where possible during storm events

Rest assured City crews are doing all that they possibly can to tackle this particularly difficult winter.

The following weather statement for the region was issued this morning by Environment Canada:

Special weather statement in effect for:
    •    Blind River - Thessalon
    •    Espanola - Killarney
    •    Manitoulin Island
    •    Greater Sudbury and vicinity

Additional snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm likely today.

Snow will continue today. Additional snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected today, bringing total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm with this system. Winds gusting to 60 km/h will generate reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Travel may be affected.

This will be a long duration snow event. Snowfall warning criteria of 15 cm or more in 12 hours or less is not expected to be met.

This snow is associated with an Alberta Clipper tracking across Northeastern Ontario today.
