Elliot Lake council is moving forward with plans to replace its former CAO Daniel Gagnon who was removed from the top post in late April.

Further details of Gagnon leaving the city’s employ were never made public and details surrounding how council will move to find a replacement are also being kept behind closed doors at the present time.

All that was mentioned about the search at the council meeting Tuesday evening was that the city will be “contracting an executive recruitment firm for the recruitment of a chief administrative officer.”

Gagnon had served the city in various positions from 2001 to 2010, before he was named interim then permanent CAO in 2010 before departing for North Glengarry in February 2011 to take a job as CAO there.

He returned to Elliot Lake in 2017 and was hired back as CAO in what then-mayor Dan Marchisella described as "a mutually beneficial do-over". He officially took the position on Jan. 2, 2018.

City clerk Natalie Bray has been named acting CAO.
