Elliot Lake is lowering all its flags to half staff in a show of respect and solidarity for victims and survivors of Friday’s horrific bus crash.

Fifteen members of the Humboldt Broncos Junior hockey team were killed in the crash involving the team bus and a transport truck just outside Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Fourteen others on the bus are in hospital, some listed in critical condition. The team was on its way to a hockey game when the accident occurred.

Elliot Lake CAO Dan Gagnon issued a news release earlier today indicating the community’s sadness at the loss of life and injuries.

“The City is lowering all of its flags to half mast in a show of respect and solidarity for the members of the community of Humboldt given the tragic loss of life,” Gagnon stated. “We will keep them at half mast for likely 15 days or until such other time that is appropriate.”
