The City of Elliot Lake is reminding residents of the by-law that makes it an offence to shovel snow into roadways.

By-Law 21-08, the Snow and Ice By-law, says the fine for shovelling or blowing snow across the travel portion of the roadway before or after the plow has gone by is $305.

It also says that it could take between 16 to 24 hours to finish clearing residential roadways after the snow has stopped falling and that up to three centimetres of snow may accumulate before plows begin to clear roadways and sidewalks.

The city's winter maintenance page also says city plows will not attempt to clear streets where the driver believes he or she would not be able to safely travel between vehicles parked on the road, so, even in the daytime, during a snow event, try not to park on the streets whenever possible.

As reported earlier by ElliotLakeToday, parking on the street between Nov. 1 and March 31 is not allowed from the hours of midnight to 7 a.m.
