Snow loads on Blind River roofs continue to be a concern with work ongoing to remove snow and some snow melting causing flooding.

Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman said workers from the North Shore Power Group and firefighters have been working to get the snow off buildings.

“Once again, winter’s weather is challenging us with snow on roofs and flooding on streets. At this time, I would like to acknowledge the work of the employees of North Shore Power Group and our Fire Fighters,” she told council at its meeting Monday evening. “They have been working diligently to get the snow off of roof tops in an effort to keep snow loads to a minimum.”

In a related matter, CAO-clerk Katie Scott told council a structural engineer has been in to look over the library building and appreciated receiving some additional information on the building from the library CEO.

Scott is expected to put together a report on municipally-owned buildings which would include costs to structurally improve buildings if needed or to replace buildings in the future.

The report was requested by Councillor Steven Wells at the council meeting on March 4. Coun. Wells is expected to bring a motion to council requesting a study be done at its first meeting in April.
