The popular Boom Camp Road in Blind River has been reopened.

The reopening was announced today by the town’s director of facilities and community services Karen Bittner who urged people to get out and, “enjoy the trails, fresh air and our incredible wildlife.”

The Boom Camp system is a year-round outdoor recreational facility with many trails of various lengths for hikers throughout the year and skiers in the winter months. It is a popular with bird watchers and hikers.

The Coastal Woodland area is in the eastern most section of Boom Camp with interpretations posted on the timber history and history of the area. The trail is 3.1 kilometres.

Another trail is the Woodland Loop that offers interpretive information on unique geological formations that gave rise in the landscape to early mining and logging activities in the region. It is a 5.3 km. trail with two scenic look out areas of the wetlands and Lake Huron.

Delta Loop of 3.7 km. starts at the end of Woodland Loop and extends to the west pavilion going through the birds-foot delta at the mouth of the Mississagi River and offers a diverse ecosystem and ecological resources. It also has access to the Boom Camp Beach which provides opportunities for beach combing, driftwood hunting and wildlife viewing.

Bittner notes that all users should remember to “Pack it in, Pack it out” all litter they have with them such as containers of bottled water and any food packaging.

“Please do not feed wild animals or litter,” she said.
