Blind River teacher praised by board for commitment to culture, community

Ecole Saint-Joseph teacher, Shelley Cyr-Soucy, participates in the school's fruit and vegetable program, plays an active role in the preparation of school celebrations, has coached the volley-ball team and contributes to her parish as well as to the Blind River community

At its June 17, 2021 board meeting, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon proceeded with the unveiling of two staff members who are being recognized for their exceptional contributions: Ms. Shelley Cyr-Soucy, educator at Ecole Saint-Joseph (Blind River), and Ms. Mia MacDonald, teacher at Ecole St-Denis (Sudbury).

This distinction, which is awarded to two employees each year, recognizes individuals who truly stand out in their role.

Shelley Cyr-Soucy is recognized for her commitment to Francophone culture and the Christian faith. Through her ability to create a relationship with Ecole Saint-Joseph students, this educator is successful in guiding them in their journey in the Christian faith as well as promoting the French language and Francophone culture.

Helpful by nature, Ms. Cyr-Soucy participates in the school's fruit and vegetable program, plays an active role in the preparation of school celebrations, has coached the volley-ball team and contributes to her parish as well as to the Blind River community.

Mia MacDonald is appreciated for her work as a resource teacher at Ecole St-Denis. Recognized for her ability to establish respect as well as her participation in Francophone and Catholic activities, she supports students in developing a sense of belonging.

While building a relationship of trust with students, teachers and parents, Ms. MacDonald works in collaboration with a variety of clinical care and educational professionals to support students in their learning. Through her ability to touch each student on a personal and social level, Mia MacDonald is a positive leader in her school and community.

“It is extremely important for us to honour the exceptional individuals who contribute to the high standards of the Catholic, French-language education offered in our schools,” explained Mr. Andr Bidal, CSC Nouvelon board chair.

“We are very lucky to have employees like Shelley and Mia who give themselves, heart and soul, for their students and their school,” stated Mr. Paul Henry, Director of Education at the CSC Nouvelon.
