Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman is calling on Blind River residents to join in two June celebrations, one that could garner the town a $100,000 grant.

The mayor in her address to town residents at council’s regular evening council meeting pointed to two events.

“June is recognized as Pride month and together as a community we celebrate the history, courage and diversity of Blind River’s LGBT2QS+ resident,” she said in her address in the beginning of Monday evening’s virtual council meet. “We fly the Pride flag with honour as we stand in solidarity with the LGBT2Q+ community.”

“June is also Parks and Recreation Month and council would like to recognize the hard work and dedication shown by our amazing parks and recreation staff,” she said. “From operating our community ice rinks in the winter months to keeping our parks and beaches clean in the summer, our parks crews work tirelessly to keep Blind River beautiful all year round.”

June is also Participaction Month and the mayor would like residents to register on the Participaction website at its Community Challenge in a bid to win $100,000.

“Register for the Community Challenge under our P0R1B0 postal code so that your physical activities will bring our little town that much closer to winning $100,000.” she said. “We can do this Blind River and we have 23 more days to show our strength.”

The Pride flag was raised outside the tourist information centre at the easterly entrance to town.
